Cyprus-based alternative rock band The smallest Creature (TsC) is poised to take fall 2016 by storm with a string of singles set for release through October, beginning with their hit single Reboot. TsC is the brainchild of its frontman, Stefanos Marnerides (guitar, vocals, songwriting) who once used the name as an alias in his years as a solo artist before being joined by longtime friends Iacovos Stylianides (drums) and Stephanos Nicolaou (bass). Together the trio are preparing their debut album release while promoting these four singles: Reboot, Copenhagen, Spring, and Enchanting.
LYRICALLY: When it comes to songwriting, Stefanos Marnerides knows how to craft sensible lyrics and tightly fasten them to good melodies. With the release of their lead single, Reboot, The smallest Creature band made a powerful step in the right direction thanks to the song’s optimistic message and melody structure. The next two singles the band will release are equally decent lyrically, but they fall flat in the area of melody writing. Fortunately, the trio ends strong with their October release of Enchanting, which is a huge pick-me-up from Copenhagen and Spring. Everything the other songs lack in the melody area, Enchanting makes up for.
MUSICALLY: Every song is well composed, but of all four songs The smallest Creature is releasing this fall, my favorite has to be Enchanting because, this song just flat out rocks! From the guitar play to the drums and bass, TsC put the pedal to the metal and are driving this bad boy straight into your auditory system, sending shockwaves that will undoubtedly awake your sleeping endorphins. It’s the most energetic song on TsC plans to release this year. My least favorite composition is Copenhagen because, even though the song is a ballad, it seems to drag along and never really resonated with neither the musician nor the music fan in me.
VOCALLY: My favorite vocal performance from Stefanos happens to be on Enchanted because, his vocal range gets pushed beyond the relaxed and somber tone that seems to be the vocal foundation of TsC’s other three songs. Stefanos approaches Enchanted differently; this time releasing a level of intensity and passion that draws you in from the moment the record begins. I’d recommend TsC release more of this type of music because it will propel them beyond the underground alternative rock scene, and launch them into international stardom.
